Edward Steichen is the artist of the painting ,"Scarlet Poppy." This was painted in 1902 on oil on canvas. Using emphasis,Steichen, attracts attention to the flower. He shows how both color and emphasis can play a significant role in the paiting.

The color red plays a role because the Scarlet Poppy is a red flower which is also the title of the painting. Showing that the theme is driven by the subject and title. The emphasis in this painting is the flower "Scarlet Poppy." Emphasis means that our attention is drawn more to certain parts of a composition than to others. Steichen uses red and blue both primary colors to attract the viewer's eye to see the flower as the subject. We often address nature ans its theme through art. It serves as a material for art.

Edward Steichen is also the artist of my other painting ,"The Sunflower." This was painted in 1920 on tempera and oil on canvas. There is emphasis in the photo but that is not a significant role. There is more unity and variety.

The colors in the photo create a visual connection. Emphasis does play a role because it does attract the viewers attention to the different shapes. However, because there are so many colors and shapes the viewer's eye does not draw their attention to the shape or color of a certain object in the photo. There is more unity and variety. The variety of shapes and colors are creating interest to the viewers eye and the compostion of the painting is unified.
