The two main balances in chapter 5 describe are symmetrical balance and asymmetrical balance. Symmetrical balance "the implied center of gravity is the vertical axis, an imaginary line drawn down the center of the composition."(pg.125) Asymmetrical balance "has two sides that do not match."(pg.129)
This picture is asymmetrical because you notice that the sofa is not balanced. You notice on one end of the sofa that is is more thin and there is not a back oppose to the other end with more material and the back gets higher the more the sofa goes down. It also has a curve in the back. This picture is symmetrical due to the orchid is mirrors the composition. The balance shifts on one side from the other.

I choose this picture because of the models makeup. This picture is also known as photorealism.

There is symmetrical balance in this photo.

Dada is a movement that refused to make sense. This photo is everywhere and you can also see unity and variety.

This is also an example of Dada. I like this picture because there is so much going on.

Unity and variety is in this photo. With so much going on in the photo, the girl still stands out.

Emphasis is present in this photo but also photorealism. My theme is fashion and i thought it would be nice to pick older photographs also.

Expressionism is in this photo. Usually i would not pick this type of work but the light colors attracted me to it with the rough texture.

This is the best example of dada. This photo sends a message to help you understand.

Emphasis is in this photo. The pink hair against the white background stands out.

I like this photo because everything stands out. There is also scale and proportion.

This photograph is asymmetrical. There is also unity and variety.

Unity and variety along with emphasis is in the photo. However i was attracted to the picture because of the complimentary colors.

There is a sense of realism that stands out in the picture. Photorealism is the best way to describe the photograph.

The reason i like this photo is because of how the women looks a distance from the tower. I see scale and proportion in this photogragh.

There is unity and variety in this photo. Through all the paint on the women you still can tell what she is and she still stands out.

Proportion is defintely present in the picture. I like how the women body doesnt look connected.

Photorealism makes me enjoy this photo. Also, how the yellow looks against the white creating emphasis.

There is symmetrical balance in the photograph. I like the photo because of the message on the back of the jacket.
